Geneva History Center changes

As you probably know, the Geneva History Center, and particularly Ron Rawson, made important contributions to our 40th, with photos from the Republican as well as period photos. Ron, who helped us gather information and pictures for the Memory Book and Website, is no longer in charge of the museum archives. He will be sorely missed. The museum gift shop is closing. We managed to get some great Geneva items (for Class gifts & raffle prizes at the next reunion) before they sold out. Terry Emma (Cathy Emma Heath's sister) has just been named as the new Executive Director of The Geneva History Center.

Memory books and DVDs are still available!

Judy Gillespie Wilkening produced the Memory Book, a great compilation of memories shared by classmates, information on classmates & teachers, the 40th reunion, and selected memorable tidbits. Memory Books are still available for $5 each.

The 2010 Reunion DVD is 25 minutes of pictures of "our" Geneva, and our classmates from Grade School through the Reunion events, including video of us at the Saturday evening dinner at Pheasant Run. It's all set to timely music. So far, 78 DVDs have been distributed, and can still be ordered: $5 each for Pheasant Run dinner attendees; $10 each for non-attendees.

Pictures wanted!

Thanks to classmates, we received lots of "old" pictures, and some great memories. (Special thanks to Bruce Anderson for the great after High School pictures). We need more!! We would like to have a complete set of Grade School pictures, and we have none from Junior High years. Plus, we know some of you have stories to tell that should be shared in the next Memory Book. Or, send us updates on you and yours. Please visit the Contact Us page.

NEWS FLASH FROM GENEVA!

The Mill Race under current management closed its doors at the end of January, 2011. We were glad to have a last look at it during the reunion at the Welcome Center. The economy hit hard, and restaurants have not benefited as much from a more recent positive outlook. Let's hope someone is able to pick up this institution of the city.

FEEDBACK DESIRED!

The success of Reunion events really depends on honest and accurate feedback. The committee takes each comment seriously when planning for the next. So, use the General category on the Contact Us page to send your tboughts. And, if you're interested in volunteering to help next time, let us know!

September 23, 2010 Update

Follow up on the renunion.

It was a great 40th Reunion for the Geneva, Illinois class of 1970, wasn't it? Thanks to everyone who expressed their appreciation and took time to write notes and emails to the committee. Over half of the class was able to attend one or more activities over the weekend. The variety of venues reconnected us with our teachers, the schools, and with each other.

After a big event, it takes a bit of time to regroup, tidy up loose ends, and look forward to the future. But, that's happening. Look to the main column for the latest news after the reunion.

Teachers at the Reunion

We're thankful for the many teachers who joined us for the 40th! We appreciate their making time in their schedules to reconnect with the class.

This aspect of the reunion was designed as a special surprise by the Committee. The first hint of this was Roger Morris greeting the class at the Night Cap. The following were able to join us inside:

  • Richard Arbizzani (Sixth St. School - 6th grade)
  • Jerry Auchstetter (GECOHI - coach)
  • Don Brown (GECOHI - coach, teacher)
  • William Cooper (GECOHI - science teacher)
  • Mary Favoright (GECOHI - Senior Girls gym teacher)
  • James Mayer (Coultrap - math teacher)
  • Roger Morris (GECOHI - Assistant Principal)
  • Kenneth Payleitner (Principal/Teacher - Bradley & Harrison)
  • Jerry Plotkin (GECOHI - French teacher)
  • Bob Schick (GECOHI - coach, teacher)
  • Geraldine Stanford (GECOHI - English teacher)

DVDs and Memory Books

The Committee is putting together a DVD of the reunion event. The DVD will really be a special treat. It will be about 25 - 30 minutes of very good & wonderful pictures set to timely music. We think everyone will be pleasantly surprised. Pictures and videos come from a variety of sources.

  • Historical photos collected for display at the Reunion have been scanned.
  • Cameras were made available at the reunion for classmates to take pictures of one another.
  • Professional videos were taken at the Saturday night event.

David Phyfer is putting the final DVD master together from these sources, with a sound track.

DVD Cost

  • Attendees at Pheasant Run -- $5/ea
  • Non-attendees -- Pheasant Run -- $10/ea
  • If, due to special circumstances, you've already been contacted by the committee, please disregard.

Memory Book Cost

Memory Books were created from the memories shared by by classmates. The booklets were distributed at dinner Saturday night. Copies are still available -- if you didn't attend the reunion, or if you'd like an additional copy. They are available for $5.
